Please help me to solve my problem with Microsoft Outlook. When I try to open pst file I get error message "An error occured".
So my question is, could anyone suggest me a proper way so that I may never face such issue again? How to fix pst file?

Thanks

Are you double clicking on the .pst file? You can't do that, it must be opened from Outlook.

In the office folder where the Outlook executable resides, there should be a little program called ScanPST.exe give that a shot.

Thank God -- I had the same thought but wasn't sure. There had been a file-repair feature maybe beginning with Office 2007 . . . .

I must have used it once or twice in the last 5 years on the same number out of 5 machines. Somehow, never have any more problems with my Outlook files.

Ditto! Its still there in 2016 and as of 2010 or 2013 it repairs OST sync issues as well instead of having a separate ScanOST

Hello.
Use scanpst.exe to check the pst file for errors. The location of scanpst.exe depends on your version of Outlook and Windows. When scanpst.exe is unable to fix it there might have been some serious corruption in the pst file. There are some recovery softwares available like this - https://www.fixtoolbox.com/outlookfix.html

I hope it helps.
