Quit blindly supporting Linux. It's never going to be superior to Windows or even the Mac OS, so get over it. The Linux world is an enthusiast's one - it'll never be mainstream.

edit: BTW, I do have 3 RH Linux boxes - only for educational purposes... I'll never be running RH on any of my servers.

Apache, running on Solaris and linux comprise the lion's share of weberver OS deployment.
Sendmail is still by far the most popular mail server program.
There are versions of both that will run on Windows.
Not many use them.

No sh1t, moron. My argument was Linux was not SUPERIOR to Windows - which it is not and will never be. Was I ever talking about webservers??? NO. I was talking in general. On all PC's (servers and clients included), there are more Windows installs than Linux installs.

Man, how did a response to a guy's question about which mail server for WINDOWS 2000 SERVER turn into a Windows vs. Linux flamewar??? This argument is not even valid seeing as the poster specified that he wanted a mail server for WINDOWS 2000 SERVER, not any flavor of Unix or Linux.

Just because Windows has the most installs doesn't mean it's the best, the masses in the US are idiots, McDonald's sells the most hamburgers but they sure as hell don't have the best food.

Because unless he's got money to burn running a personal mail server on Win2K3 Server and Exchange isn't going to happen. There are free Win32 mail servers but not many, and I havn't used any of them to be able to comment.

I'm using alt-n's mdaemon. It seems to work well. They have a 30 day free trial, if you'd like to give it a try. check it out here

If your new to running email server then as a beginner I would suggest using Argosoft

Its a windows program but extremely simple and good for running your own personal email server.

I would learn with that then step up to the big boys based on Unix, Linux, Exchange etc.


BTW.. you don't have to have an MX record for your domain (for email) unless you plan to have more than one email server.
