My wording may be off  , but I' receiving numerous AnandTech subscription updates on threads that I am subscribed to, but according to the note at the end that states:

You will not receive any more updates to this topic until you visit the forums and read the message.

Every single post in the threads that I am subscribed to sends an e-mail notification to my e-mail inbox, regardless of whether I have visited the thread or not.

Is there a setting somewhere that I need to adjust or is this only happening to me!

No fixing necessary. It is the way it use to be many, many moons ago and it makes following threads a lot easier for some of us (especially when I am out of the office and getting updates on my Treo - no need to try to get to the thread in order to see all of the posts. It has always been next to impossible to read AT on my Treo).

If one does not want updates, then one should not subscribe.

I've never used it, my reply was based on comments from other users who did. I thought Zim's point was he doesn't want a PM/email notice every time a reply is added to the thread (as that does seem pointless), or is it sending you the content of that reply? Zim's OP indicates it's just a notification?

Say that to me when you are subscribed to a thread where you receive 50+ notifications per day on one thread alone MotionMan! :|

I am currently subscribed to three such threads and I am loving it, thank you very much. I was not near a computer all day today but was able to keep up with the threads throughout the day on my Treo.

Up untl the last update, they had modified the system to generate an alert per subscribed thread until you visisted the thread.

This must have been a custom modification.

Way back, you received a notification for every post.

The "upgrade" apparently removed the modification to the notice handling.

Interestingly, the same change occurred, but about three days later, on another board that I frequent.

You can unsubscribe from the thread. Still, this is getting annoying.

I'm with everyone else who would like to not have thier inbox flooded. I just came back from a rather long weekend and was shocked at how many messages I got. Perhaps an option/toggle in preferences would work to satisfy people who would like to get every update vs a single email saying there was an update.

Thanks!

Thats the way it used to be a few years ago until they ran in to some technical issues with the server bouncing emails back and the admins were having to clear several dozen to a few hundred messages being sent to legitimate email address. I remember this well, because the Moderator and I got in to a big fight over it, he threatened to ban me but I proved he was wrong and he apologized admiting it was a forum technical issue. The resolve was to change the way messages were sent out, resulting in fewer emails.

I actually appreciate the reinstatement (or fix) of the old message notification system. Often times i would start a thread and not get any susbscription notifications to only find out that the thread had taken on a life of it's own to become several pages long.

What is really needed for those whom do not share the same appreciation as I, is an option to get a "daily digest" or summary of the replies in one email message. Alternatively you could elect the option to receive every sixth reply as an email notification.

Yes it is IMO MotionMan.

To each his own.

I love the change.

, I am glad they fixed the lack of thread reply notification, I found that to be a huge nuisance.

This is ridiculous! For those few who really need to see every post from subscribed threads in their inbox, this should be left in as a specialty option, but I join the majority here in getting terribly annoyed every time I have to clean hundreds of notifications from only a few threads out of my PM inbox.

Is there a reason why those of you who are complaining cannot simply not subscribe/unsubscribe from the offending threads?

(This has been raised a few times, yet no one has responded at all.)

Sometimes I still want to have updates from threads that have spurts of activity. Constantly subscribing (to find out when another post is made during a period of inactivity) and unsubscribing (during periods of heavy activity) is not an acceptable solution. Sorry that you're offended, but there was a solution that worked just fine, and now it has been removed. I'd like to see it back.

Did I say or imply that I was offended?

In any event, I am sure that I am in the minority (especially in this thread), so I am sure that the "problem" will eventually be "fixed". Until then, let the "spam" fly!!!
