I would like to know if there is a program that will just let me know when I have received an e-mail when I am online. I am on a dial up connection and I do not have the sound on usually. I would just like to have a visual clue that I have received an e-mail. My system is a PIII 700, 256mb ram. Windows98se. Int Exp 5.5 and most recent updates, and Out Exp 5.5 and all updates.
Thanks

Ok, I have to say I don't quite understand your question... Can't you just launch OE and it'll check e-mail for you?

ICQ, AIM, and presumably other instant messaging applications include email checker/notifiers. There are also several freeware tools that can sit in your tray and do the same thing -- check download.com/davecentral.com/etc.

this link has quite a few freewares you can use

i know if you're using netscape messenger, there's a built-in email notification (plus the AIMs as Ladi mentioned)

if you leave outlook express open & the internet connected, then in the options in OE you can set how often to check for messages - it'll show a little envelope in system tray when you get one.

Thanks for the help. I've downloaded "eprompter". Getting ready to install it now and give it a try. I've been to cnet many times and to emails for other things, but never thought to look under e-mail utilities. I thought that it might be something I could do in outlook express if I knew how; guess not.
Thanks again

I use SyTinem. I went through several e-mail checkers and I have found it to be the best. It is very lightweight, no setup, only an EXE file. It is shareware, and it does everything I need and nothing more. It will not pop up a spinning envelope or anything when you recieve email. It will beep, then a message box will pop up (if you want it to) telling you you have new mail, who it's from, and what the subject is. Then it goes back to the tray. I love it.

I just picked up the "eprompter" myself. Nice simple little program. I can check my pop3 accounts & my juno mail at the same time. It could stand to have a few more options, but it seems to get the job done nicely.

Do any of these programs, or any others notify you of new email on your yahoo account? I'm asking for a friend.

Magic Mail Monitor is the best in my opinion, and its freeware, endless configurations, very fast, and very low memeory/resources usage Get It Here under 100kb :)
