E-mail non-active members and get everybody switched to CLI??

Would this not boost our WU production immensely? We have everybody's e-mail addresses right? Why not send out a massive spam and ask them if they would consider producing for the TeAm again? Then we can try to convert as many people as we can from GUI to CLI and get another boost. Even if we only get a small percentage of positive changes it mean's alot with 1400 members.

this has been discussed before, i compiled a list of people who didn't make the 3.0 to 3.03 switch and posted it here and on the other forums. then smoke made a list of people who weren't producing and we pm'd everyone we could find. i don't know if we actually emailed anyone though. i've been a fan of the idea.

Sounds good to me. If it involves alot of work for any individual I would be glad to assist as I can.

Afterall isn't that what distributed computing is all about? 😉

I agree this is a good idea, but we would not be "spam"ming, we would be doing a mass promotion email 😉

It would have to be done nicely though, as people may get ratty if it is forceful.

Plus, it would be nice to have a list of emails of all the TeAm members, and send out weekly/monthly newsletters and reports, info on races, recent milestone makers, recent winners in the SRLs that OD does, various stuff like that 🙂

i would be willing to help with content 🙂

This idea has been floating around for a while, nothing's happened though, but if we could make it work, I'm sure it would pay big dividends.

Great minds think alike. 😀

We worked the entire membership from May through August, 2001 with just such a plan. With the help of a lot of the regulars almost the entire team was contacted either by PM or email. Those that never checked in were then sent a personal email by me using their SETI EMAIL ADDRESS. The response from that emailing was negligible. Many were DOA. 🙁

I still have the list of the people that never checked in and never were accounted for. I really believe they are lost forever 'neath the streets of Boston. 😉

I just ran a study going back as far as possible using my databank, to Sunday, August 19th, 2001. Here are some facts:

During that time frame only 905 Members have turned in WUs (this is up to just a minute ago).

During that time frame a total of 99 Members that are still listed on the roster, have not turned in one (1) WU...ever. Some of our new members are included in this number and they will very shortly leave this group...I hope. 😉 An argument could be made to remove some of this group from the roster. I did bring it up once before but there was a great outcry that we don't want to "kick" anyone off the team...it would sound bad. So I do not bring it up now. I am just giving information. The other side of the aurguement is of course, they would never know and they probably don't care. Ha. LOL

The point of this is that we are a very potent group for the "real" size of our team. Current Membership is 1,447 but our actual size only counting producing members would be less than 1,000.

Let me not confuse you with the zero producers during that time period that "have" produced in the past, because their "old WUs" come to the tune of 140,893 WUs ranging from 1 WU to 28,989 WUs.

Now, I am not trying to stop any recruiting effort with this information. I just don't want to see our efforts and energies wasted by going down a dead end street that has been explored before. I think we will be better served by applying ourselves to recruiting NEW members. That's where the future lies, IMHO. 🙂

I'm all for this...

If we have a professional sounding and properly worded email sent to our existing members then I would never consider it spam. We are just letting everyone know of the race with DSLR, the benefits of the text version, and we could include our new links to setting it up, tips, FAQs ect. and welcome them back.

At the end of the message could be a clearly worded link so that they could let us know they aren't interested and we will wish them well and not bother them again.

Some will claim it's spam, I believe they already chose to be on our Team and possibly they have reformatted, bought another computer ect ect and wouldn't mind a Hello!
