Another E machine question...

I have a E machine T5088, basic machine. It is terribly slow, at boot up and has been since day one! Yes, Vista is installed.

Currently there is 512 M of RAM, if I bump it to 2G will this machine move any faster, is this what is really holding it back? What if I dump Vista and go back to XP Pro, any faster/better?

It has a P4 on board now.

Thanks again. Like I said I have a number of computers that either I am going to dump or spend a little money and get them going.

Cases, PS's, drives, etc. Most of my computing is simple, no gaming, but if I click on an icon to start it takes some time to get it going.

If you bump the RAM up to 2GB you will see a noticeable different while running Vista. If you decide to go back to XP anyways, get at least 1GB in there.

List computers you have laying around in FS/FT and see what happens, be sure to read the forums rules closely though. some of them will get the new guys everytime...just like they did me :)

If you up memory from 512 to 2048mb, it will FLY!

Thing is, DDR1 memory is more expensive than DDR2...

edit: NEVERMIND, according to this you have DDR2 memory, so getting 2 gb is CHEAP! Go for it! Dump the 512 stick and buy 2 1gb sticks!

ewiz has a 2x1gb kit for 35.02 (seach the hot deals forum for the thread by bamacre) cant go wrong with the price and it woudl defiantly be a big performance boost for ya over the 512mb.

also, the 945GC is suppose tos upport c2d according to intel's website. Not sure if the emachien will support it or not, if it does, i would also get a cheap c2d processor ofr it too
