yeah i deffinitely can. I have a different personality offline. I've went to boarding school so the whole respect and order thing is allready somewhat ingrained in me.

as much as you disagree with US Foreign policy the last thing on earth you should be doing is joining the military especially as an officer...
sinec it is your job to make sure your troops keep a positive attitude towards the government and policies you will be enforcing...
You hate the way I think and I am a product of todays military...
so I think you would be better off in the civilain sector or supporting the military though a civilian job where you can maintain your bitterness without having moral issues...

Its a job. I have had many jobs i hated but i did them well anyways. This would be no different for me.

EDIT: I have talked with soldiers in IRAQ now that did not agree with the reasons for being there.....they still do there job though. Not every military person has your views.

You should be fine, my buddy just went in a couple of years ago when he was 23, he's now flying P3's in the Navy as a pilot. He also had his Bach's and became an officer.

Officers do not get free housing. Enlisted do, but not Officers. Officers also have to pay for their meals, buy their uniforms, etc. Yes, you do get an allowance for it, but it's not enough to cover everything.

What is your degree in? I'm just wondering how you "can go in as an officer" as you put it. I was a former Army officer myself, and the only ones that got direct commisions were doctors, lawyers, chaplains, and a few others, but just having a degree doesn't mean you can go in as an officer in the Army.

I enlisted with a degree, and I got bumped up a couple pay grades to an E3 going in, but as far as being an officer, I had to apply for and complete OCS and my basic branch course before I was an officer.

Part of the problem is a huge part of your military experience depends on which base you get stationed at and which squadron/platoon/whatever you get assigned to. Some commanders are great, and some just suck ass.

From what my military friends tell me, the money isn't that great. I guess it's all relative.

Short of a basketweaving degree, most people with 4 year bach's and a decent GPA will go straight to OCS. Times have changed.

There are not very many financial benefits for officers in terms of loan repayment. If you are looking to pay off your loans, you would have to enlist (Hence, not an officer). The Military loan repayment program is an enlisted benefit, along with the GI bill. Unless you plan on going medical that is, in which case there are more options.

Either way, joining as an officer will not pay off your loans.

Just as long as you are aware that you must enlist and sign a contract for several years. No one can or will guarantee that you will even get into OCS, let alone pass the course. The drop out rate in OCS is over 50%. We started with 125 people and graduated 55 people. That's pretty typical. You've got to be prepared for this, it's no cakewalk, and it certainly is not like any college course you've ever taken. It takes dedication, not just acting to pass that course. If you fail or are forced out, you'll be finishing your career as enlisted, and the chances are that you will. I'm only telling you this because you need to know the facts.

can you distinguish the difference for me? enlisting vs. going through OCS why would one get the benefit and not the other. Im a military Nooobbbbbbbbbb

This man speaks the truth too. You can't simply join as an officer... unless you go through a ROTC program, you need to enlist first and them complete OCS.
