Heh, I just read that article in the paper mag. Pretty interesting, but I don't believe it would help us too much in our current battles.

Thats a really old idea. Surprised it's just making news now. Scary non the less. So many things so cheaply anyone or group of ppl can do.

Yeah, there are so many ways that terrorists can kill people --- sad, but true...

edit:

Or many ways terrorists can mess up our lives....

this type of bomb doesn't kill people... it kills all electronics... taking you back many years.

man this article pretty much drafts exactly how to make these weapons... then we wonder how the hell these terrorits are able to pull this sorta crap off... :|

If the afghanis were to make this into some sort of mortar shell they'd wreck all sorts of havoc...

Well the next time politicians try to reduce the defense budget, remember we need those submarines lurking undetected in the oceans!

This article is scary, but I don't think that $400 device could have much range. With the missiles the U.S has they can theoretically blanket a whole nation. Plus I beleive they have to be detonated in the air to be effective. Our military has known of this for a while and has taken measures to protect electronics from EMP's (I hope). Still scary nonetheless when you consider that virtually everyone in the U.S., whether that person own sa PC or not, probably uses a computer daily. Cash registers, fuel pumps, traffic signals, etc. etc. Imagine if all of a sudden these were rendered useless.

Forbes ASAP did an article on this 5 or 6 years ago. Their perspective was that it could be used by corporations as a tool to wipe out the competition. Evidently you can use the same principles to build a HERF gun so the pulse can be aimed. Also they mentioned that it was also a sure way to get cancer of the gonads.

Read the article... it says that if this devie were to use microwafe frequencies... any protection the US military has currently would be rendered useless...

You can detonate this anywhere... of course doing it in the air is most effective...

Hmm, this would do so much damage. It would make the Y2K fears look like a walk in the park. Imagine one in every city. Why the hell did they print this? They should have atleast pulled it after the WTC!

I wonder how small you could make these? If you could get one of these in a plane, (even a small chartered plane) you could still cause a lot of damaged. Or even in the parking garage of a building or at a hub.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hey, while the guy who wrote this article was at it, he should have included the schematics and a Radio Shack parts list, so the terrorists really wouldn't have to do any work.

PM has done something like before, I remember an article on how to break into one of our ICBM sites. Well, it was explaining how easy it would be. Complete with itemized defenses and crap.
