I contacted a guy on craigslist.com to buy a vintage mustang. They guy is in Croatia, and wants to use Ebay Safe Harbor as escrow. This is perfect to me, and I receive an email that looks like it is from Ebay. But there are a couple of things. The email came from ebay@hotpayments.com , and when I do a whois, does not say it is registered to Ebay (sounds fishy). Also, the 'agent' he wants me to wire money to is in Croatia, not the US (fishy part II). I forwarded the email to ebay but have not heard back in a couple of days. Has anyone used Safe Harbor before and can offer a real world experience?

edit: I know it's a fake email, I was looking for advice on how safeharbor really works from someone that has used it. Thanks :)

Thanks for the responses. No I'm not retarded, but I have not used ebay safeharbor before, they don't make information easy to find on their website, I cannot find an 800 number to call, and they don't answer email inquiries. Also I do not use ebay on a regular basis so I can't speak to their policies, common scams, etc.

I knew it was a fake email, but my question centered around 'how does ebay safeharbor work' from someone who has used it before (for future reference). I have already forwarded the email to ebay's spoof dept.

If you can't answer that question, move along.

BTW, thanks Jetpuff for the link. That's more information than I could get from ebay ridiculous FAQs and customer response.

You fool you know you weren't 100% to begin with. You wouldn't have back-storied otherwise.

I was getting frustrated trying to find information on egays site about their escrow service that I gave up. What a waste of time, which reminds me of why I don't use them in the first place.

DeadByDawn,

Thanks for the info.
