I recently upgraded my gaming rig from an AMD XP1800 processor (Thoroughbred core) to an Intel Pentium 4 2.6c. I purchased an MSI Neo motherboard (865PE) along with the retail (boxed fan/heatsink) 2.6c. I've noticed that this Intel runs a lot hotter than my XP1800 did. Checked the BIOS, my CPU temperature sits around 45 degrees Celsius. This seems awfully high to me. I have been using AMD chips for the past few years, and have always known them to run hotter, but this doesn't seem to be the case with mine. My XP1800 ran around 34 degrees with a Coppermine cooler.
Edit: Forgot to mention: I also have 2 Vantec exhaust fans facing reward, one Vantec intake fan in the front, a Vantec intake fan on the window's side, and another exhaust facing facing up on the top of the case. I have a Nexus fan controller turned on the max setting but the fans RPMs on the Intel don't go anywhere near as high as on the AMD chip I had (about half). All of my IDE cables are round cables. And I've never overclocked either chips.
