Damn that is cheap. Problem is the case, hard drive, memory, and psu will cost more than the motherboard and cpu does. Let alone the OS.

Well, you can occasionally find cases for <$30 (and, if you're like most geeks, you have a spare case....or two....or more!....laying around). Same with the PSU. Limited to SATA hard drive (but, again, lots of older units people still have on hand). Memory's on sale, at Newegg, all the time (and you can currently find a 4GB kit (2 x 2GB) for $18, or an 8GB kit (2 x 4GB) for $33 there).

But yeah, unless you plan on putting Linux (or a pirated version of Windows :sneaky: ) on there, the OS is a killer. :\

Jumped on this right away, was eyeing that last week when it was $75...couldn't pass it up at that price. Going to build an HTPC with some spare parts (and a used Thermaltake mITX case I've had in the closet for months)...

Thanks OP!

if only Netflix HD worked with these... be perfect HTPC low power tiny solution.

I bought one without researching it a year or so ago. With a 64gb SSD and 4GB ram, these things were great for browsing, music and media as a HTPC, except Netflix HD.

Blu Rays are even no problem. 1080p MKV's no problem. 1080p Flash is no problem

Silverlight Will forever haunt these chips

The mobo doesn't support OCing?

These CPUs are so weak, OCing doesn't make much of a difference. Plus, hard to upgrade the cooling, these things run hot as it is.

I"m thinking there is more headroom on this specific setup because of the improved cooling. It doesn't look quite is rinky-dink as some of the other atom/zactate hsf's.

We'll see...

I'm not much into Netflix, but that's good to hear.

I finally got one. After seeing my KAW estimate my yearly computer costs at $289, I decided to do something about it. I rarely game anymore. I don't need to do DC either.

Edit: I picked up the Ranger-M case by Rosewill, it's $29.99 FS, with a free flash drive bonus.

exactly. CRAP! just remembered i forgot to buy the killawatt when i was at menards today. :colbert: anyway, yeah its surprising how much money gets burned in electricity. i struggle to keep my bill under $100 a month, and i have a tiny apartment. its was the same cost to run my whole house, but i have more gadgets now that never get unplugged.

im starting to think i need to invest in smart outlets.. ones that could maybe turn on by an android app. i bet all the phantom power adds up to some 50w or so. (1 tv, 4 computer screens, power bricks, stereos... might be more then 50!)

Any tiny power supplies to run something like this + SSD w/o being large and unmanageable?

For what it's worth, I have not had any issues playing back any DXVA2 compatible video files on my e350. The only video files I haven't been able to play back are hi10p encoded h.264 video since that is outside of the DXVA2 spec.

My HTPC is a mATX e350 from ASUS and with an SSD, one stick of ram, and an SSD it pull down 17-35W (usually toward the lower end). Even the smallest picoPSU should have no trouble powering it.

My NAS has an ASRock mITX e350 and with 8x 5400rpm hard drives and 2x 120mm AP15 gentle typhoons at 7V it pulls down 65-80W, so still manageable with a picoPSU.
