its been pwned by consumer reports atleast 3 times now. its pretty looking and costs a lot, but doesn't beat a 200 dollar hoover in tests.

All I can say is it beats the crap out of my 2000 dollar canister vac. pulls out more dirt, the carpetes are cleaner, and no expensive filters to change constantly.

everybody has an opintion of course, and consumer reports is the last place to look for real information.

-edit- jeez, talk about poor spelling, anyway I have white carpets so its very easy to see the difference.

You sound like Sharper Image.. "Everyone has their opinion". As if it makes a difference that cognitive dissonance causes people to believe their Ionic Breezes,
Dysons, and Bose stereos are worth the money.

When I find a 5-600 dollar vacuum that I have personally owned that stomps the crap out of my 2K canister vac - you betcha I'm gonna preach.

We're talking a CHEAP vacuum cleaner here, not an overpriced one. And it so happens in my experience of actually using and owning both (as opposed to reading something on the intarweb) it is well worth the money.

This is my personal experience. You simply cannot believe the stuff this thing picks up that the canister vac doesn't. All in a very inexpensive vacuum cleaner.

CHEAP? Yeah, maybe compaired to your $2,000 one. But everywhere I've seen the Dyson, it's 2x as much as the most expensive other brand they carry. I am not surprised it cleans well, look how much it costs! I don't need to read any reviews, or do any tests of my own to know there is only so much cleaning a vacuum can possible do. Does it clean better then a $100 Eurka? probably, does t clean better then a decent Hover? maybe. Does it clean $400+ dollars better then a decent Hover? I seriously doubt it. I'm not sure how people do tests, when I vacuum the surface dirt looks gone, dunno how to check deep down in the carpet. I can't wait until Dyson releases a new uber 2006 model that costs a grand he he he.

My guess is people who buy Dysons make themselves believe they have the most uber unit on the market simply because of the price. ANY Vacuum that costs even 300 bucks should clean EVERYTHING. For $500-600? it better help my neice with her Algebra and make me a Ribeye Steak too.

Damn, I thought this thread would be about Dyson spheres... anyway, I prefer Niven's ringworld setup. With a Dyson sphere I get the feeling that it'd be awfully hard to keep the "poles" from collapsing into the star since there's no centripetal force to keep them spun out away from its mass. Now a "Dyson sphere" of solar collectors kept "inflated" by solar wind to power a ringworld... that would be neat. Or even just a series of large O'Neill cylinders.

My brother just got one and was amazed. THey vacuumed their place with the Hoover Wind TUnnel vacuum last week Saturday. Then on Sunday they bought a Dyson (not sure which model). They filled up the Dyson canister over 6 times even though they had just used the wonderous Hoover vacuum the day before.

Consumer Reports, just like anyone else that reviews something, is jsut one person or one company's results. THey are no more special or correct than anyone else's. Unless you, or someone you personally know, has ever used one, you are not qualified to answer the original question.

I'm going to borrow my brothers and see how it does. And if it does so much better than our current one, we might go grab one next time they are on sale as well.

Why not read what real people think...
