...are you 16 or something?

Do you not see the similarities between the two companies? Both Dyson and Apple make a superior, albeit overpriced product. The type of people who buy them are exactly the same. The type of people who hate them are exactly the same.

If they are superior and the market agrees, then it is not overpriced.

I think the big Dyson vacuums are a little too expensive. I do like the DC35 battery powered handheld we have though. I got it refurbished for $199. It was the only light, battery powered vacuum I could find in that form factor. Since we have 90% hardwood in our house it works great. The carpet we do have we use a Kenmore progressive.

Erm, the problem with these Apple comparisons it that Apple does not make a superior product. They make a pretty product.

If the Dyson hardware with a different name is widely available for one-third their asking price, they we can talk about comparing them.

Most people here with a Dyson probably spent 250-400 bucks. So what can you get for 100-150?

Bought a Shark upright vacuum from Costco about two months ago for $150 and don't see how a $400-$500 vacuum can clean better than this one. It cleans insane.

Honestly, I still think the old-style Elextrolux commercial vacuums are the best. They don't clog and you can beat the ever-loving crap out of them without damaging them. Not saying the Dysons aren't good, just that the Sanitaires can really take a beating and just keep running forever.

Da know bro... Pretty sure most people would prefer to own a computer with the build quality of an Apple product. Ditto for running OS X to Windows.

Sounds like a pretty good recipe for 'superior'.

That's a valid point. But the haters of both companies will tell you "no way it's worth that much"
Seems a lot like how Bose operates actually. People are used to cheap speakers but the marketing power of Bose gets people to spend a ton of money for speakers. They sound great compared to what they are used to, but can't compare to anything else in their price range. I doubt Dyson is as overpriced as Bose, but it's clear the marketing of Dyson has made them successful and not the quality compared to other $500 vacuums.

The wife and I purchased a Dyson (the original yellow ball version) about 4 years ago. She says it works great, I can't really tell. Don't have anything to compare it to.
