Dynamic Disk vs Basic Disk

I have a dying drive (it have a ! on the drive, when i go to manage drive), which i format in Dynamic disk, it is a WD 160G.

Now i want to clone the drive to another new 160G, i try both Arconic True image and ghost, they both said cannot operate this disk structure?

So what is the benefit or dynamic disk? if i cannot run a backup or clone it?

When you format a drive into dynamic and when u should format as basic?

I have couple drive in my pc i think 5, i think 3 of them is dynamic and 2 of them is basic?

I also sometime pull it out and put it into my firewire external box too.
