Dymo recently introduced a line of label printers that
attach to your computer (serial or USB port). When
I first heard about these I thought "snore". But a couple
of weeks ago I was visiting a friend and had to print
out a few shipping labels, and I was won over. It's not
that you can't print out labels with a standard printer,
but this thing is so much more convenient. Plus no
toner/inks to worry about. And it interfaces with
all standard programs.
FWIW.
Anyway, Buy.com has the entry level EL40 (compatible
with both Mac and Windows) for $128.95. You can use a
$20/100 c*upon (see other sites). PLUS, there's a $50
rebate on this printer. And free shipping. So $59 after
all is said and done.
Personally, I went for the EL60. The main advantage of the
EL60 is that it can printer out wide labels, so it can
be used with internet postage apps like estamp.com and
stamps.com. That one will run your $93.95 after a $30/150
c*upon and the $50 rebate.
There's also a "turbo" model that'll cost you $40 more
than the EL60, but the only difference between the turbo
and the EL60 is print speed (12 labels/minute vs 30 labels/
minute). I'm not running a direct mailing biz, so the
speed wasn't worth the cost.
