Problem: My Ti4400's DVI output just died on me, so I figure the analog is going to quit as well.
Solution: I need to purchase a new video card.

Problem- I'm not sure on what to get. I need to have better than what I am losing, with a leaning towards a card that will be able to run XP- MCE if it ever becomes available to me. I am currently thinking of going with a Radeon 9700 card, but I'm not sure...

Solution??

Budget goal is around $200 or less, but if there is a really good deal, I could probably con the wife into lettin' me spend more...

** Edited System Rigs to reflect current systems...
** Edit again- I run at 1280x1024, normally this is over the DVI plug

I say shoot for a 9600 Pro if you're on a budget, then a 9700 Pro, then a 9800 or 9800 Pro, in that order depending if you're on a budget or not.

I seriously wouldn't buy an FX (especially their budget line) because of performance problems.

I've been quite pleased with my 9800 Pro 128M, which I've owned for a few months now. The only problem I've had is with Call of Duty and the 3.8/3.9 drivers, which is a known problem. Switching back to the 3.7s was a pain, but that's the only problem I've had thus far.

Maybe, but the 9600 Pro is also $55 less. You may say that isn't much but it's over a 25% price reduction. This a NewEgg <-> NewEgg comparison.

I just got a 5900 to hold me over until I build myself a new machine this spring. It overclocked quite nicely to 480/980 and my machine is tops for it's processor class/All video cards in Aquamark 3, and second place in 3DMark2003 new build.

Pretty damn good for 200 and change.

get a 9800np from the FS/T forum and flash it to a 9800pro ... or shoot for a 9700pro

even i have to admit a good 5900 for 200 bucks is a good deal.

but if the 5900 costs the same as a 9800, by all means 9800 all the way

i'd choose 9700 over 5900 if they cost the same too

This is where I am sitting now. A 9800SE np or a 5900. Anybody had both? I am now leaning towards the 9800, but I am not sure how an OEM 9800SE np would stack vs. a 5900.. I am thinking 9800np

SAPPHIRE OEM ATI RADEON 9800SE 128MB Non Pro DVI/TV 8X AGP BULK $167.00
XFX NVIDIA® Geforce FX 5900 128MB DDR Video Card, Model PV-T35K-NA - Retail $199.00

Yeah, it's the 1100, the non-golden sample. I got it on-sale at Newegg for a bit over $200 a few weeks back. It's listed at $239 now.

The funny thing is it's supposed to have the crappy RAM, but mine OCs quite nicely.

I guess I got lucky. Which is a first for me.

DO NOT GET THE RADEON 9800SE NP

Especially if its made by Sapphire....All SE cards come with half the pipelines of a normal Radeon 9800 so that puts them at 4x1 instead of 8x1 and some of SE cards have 128-bit memory bus instead of 256. So if you will get half the perfomance of 9800 nonpro, and worse even less with 128bit memory!

Even though these cards are tempting at $150 a piece (thats like Getting a 9600 Pro at best, which costs cheaper anyways)

5900 is an awesome deal if you are lucky to get one for $200 with 2.2ns BGA memory if not its 2.8 memory

I know $200 is your budget but here you can get:

FIC Radeon 9700 Pro $229 325/620 2.8ns BGA Memory
This is has been run at on several website reviews 375/700 when overclocked considering 2.8ns memory is rated at 350mhz (700 effective) i am sure you can push more with ramsinks that would be better perfomance than Radeon 9800NP which costs at least $30 US more and sometimes comes with 3.3ns Samsung Ram that You cant softmod to Radeon 9800 pro

I am sure you can find cheaper 5900 from what the guys above mentioned. If you do i'd probabably take it because its cheaper and Ati drivers still cause artifacts and crashes in some games (Call of Duty)
