Sucess, money, pocessions...all fleeting....but throughout life and seemingly beyond death, love can be eternal.

Hopefully she will be happy, and hopefully, her life will not have been a tragedy as she will have achieved a joy that many of us can only dream about.

$20k for wedding expensive? Ask your indian friends how much their weddings cost...

A lot of my friends/cousins have been getting married lately, most expensive wedding to date is $400k (all i know is he graduated from MIT so chances are he's rich), but the average wedding is ~$150-$200k so far. I'm actually kind of scared about this, it's almost time and I don't see why you'd rather just put all that money into your house...

even 20k for a wedding is good to put into a house. And this will probably be the downfall of me ever getting married. I have only met maybe a few women who also agree on this point... too bad they were all taken. otherwise, there will be much fighting.. heh

unless I win the lotto of course. or maybe her parents are filthy rich and want to pay for the wedding, altho, I probably wouldn't be comfortable with that.

She couldn't have a real marriage because she's being treated under her parents' health plan. She gets married and she loses that coverage. Since the couple is so young, they'd have almost no chance of finding affordable coverage (hubby wouldn't yet have a decent-enough job to have a good company health plan and with her pre-existing condition, an individual health plan would be absurdly expensive). So, sadly, they're not getting officially married purely for financial reasons.

Only rich people are getting married today if they can afford a 50k and 150k wedding! I'm using an onion ring for an engagement ring and the reception will be at Sonic

I'd believe it. I know people making somewhere in the 50-60k/year range who bought $10k engagement and wedding bands. It's something I'd possibly consider as well, should I ever get to that point.
