Dying Light - The Following (we need to talk)

Dudes, we need to talk about this awesome game. Did you guys enjoy Dying Light, the base game?

OK, so I’m trying something new, at least for me.

After doing a bunch of serious tutorial & walkthrough videos for several games (Fallout 4, Far Cry Primal, etc) I wanted to do something a little more loose and fun.

I invited a buddy over (I’m the only one mic’d) and decided to record about an hour of me playing Dying Light The Following on the hardest difficulty (Nightmare), going in blind, just to see what would happen. I cut all the fat off of a 1 hour gameplay video down to about 9 mins of just…having fun with a video game.

I know the Let’s Play videos that are more focused on fun & being silly rather than serious and strategic and that can be annoying to some, but I wanted do something less serious. You know, just have fun!

I’m actually kind of nervous posting this one, but what the hey hey. You know I value this forums opinions and am totally open for constructive criticism.

If you love it or hate it, let me know! 🙂

I loved Dying Light. The only reason I haven't gotten The Following is price, and the fact Best Buy doesn't carry it. Once it's around $40, I'll grab it, unless The Division hooks me. I'd like someone to play it with as well, but none of my friends got it but one, and he never wanted to play it. Still, it was one of my favorite games in YEARS, and that's from someone who doesn't like zombies in general (I find them often overdone and poorly done).

$20 digital code here: http://www.amazon.com/DYING-LIGHT-F...875&sr=1-2&keywords=dying+light+the+following

Does that work for you?

The issue is the price, and buying the base game and Season Pass separately really isn't cheaper. I'm just waiting on a price drop. That, and going digital for the DLC (rather than getting the physical Enhanced Edition) means I can't trade it in or let someone borrow it or resell it later. I'm just picky and cheap, is what it amounts to. That, and I'm waiting on The Division.

The game looks intriguing to me, mostly the graphics and open world. Never played it because of Dead Island, didn't like the back n forth grinding thing. Graphics look awesome but just not into zombies but maybe when the following drops to a serious sale price i'll check it out.

I never played Dead Island. Grinding isn't a part of Dying Light though, I can tell you that. In fact, one of my few complaints is you kind of get all the useful skills too quickly, and you're as good as you're going to get, like, halfway through. Shadow of Mordor had the same RPG failing. Like you, I don't like zombie stuff at all. Dying Light just does things I like--tells a good story pretty well, has loads of content, has a good VARIETY of content, and lets you make the game as challenging as you want (both through difficulty settings and the day/night cycle).

I picked up the Enhanced Edition of this game on PS4 and have about 60 hrs in the base game. I just started the following and haven't even touched Be the Zombie and that skill tree yet. For my money, it's been one of the most refreshing and new games I've played this gen. While pieces of this gameplay existed in other games, this is the first to wrap those mechanics up into one amazing package. I didn't play dead island, but I heard it left a lot to be desired, and the parkour has really filled that gap in gameplay in spades. The traversal in this game is pure joy, along with the novel agility skill tree.

For $60, the EE version that includes the following is a great deal. Perhaps I've been spoiled having 2 other friends to play the entire game coop with. I hope they make a dying light 2, but tech land doesn't sound like they can make another game in a reasonable amount of time. When asked about it, they mentioned not being able to make they game they want to on current gen. :/

This is the ONLY game I've finished in years I kept because I knew the expansion was coming out. Didn't realize it was out yet. DL was awesome. Definitely will get this. Way underrated game.

Bumping this thread. Just wanted to add that this game is awesome. I am having a ton of fun with it. Finished the main campaign and moved on to the DLC. Driving is very fun and the change from the city to the rural area in the DLC is great. I'm not one for side quests and in games like this, I usually just stick to the main quests but I have completed most of the side quests.

DL is awesome, way better than Dead Island.

I was talked into trying it again recently and I'm pretty hooked. I was turned off before because of the insane ramp in difficulty playing at night, but with the right tools it's a complete blast!

It only gets better as you progress too. Better missions, weapons, and gear. Looks pretty nice as well, aside from the obvious "parkour this, parkour that" type of level design... gets a little tiresome

Hells yeah!

I never get tired of clunking zombie heads in Dying Light. I do get annoyed at all the mario jumping puzzles. Too many. And the zelda hookshot doesnt help because you still need to jump a lot.

I'm hoping this is on-sale for Black Friday. Never got to go back to it, but really want to, ideally with someone else along for the ride.

I did end up getting the expansion. It was superb. Dying Light was a way underrated game. It was absolutely superb.
