dxdiagnose

Hi guys

When I run dxdiag, I notice that the spinning cube in the direct 3D acceleration test spins extremely fast almost to the point of being impossible to recognise for what it is. I have seen it at what I would describe as a normal speed but that was in win98 sp2. Should it really spin so fast and if not, how can it be calmed down.

Rig:- P4 2.66, 512Mb, GF Ti4200 128Mb. nv drivers 55.64.

Regards

Frank

LOL, I just checked mine and it went at an insanely fast speed. Is that normal? I tried taking a screenshot, but the moment i pressed print screen, it froze for a second, and continued spinning like crazy. I have a BFG fx5900.

Some of you have vsync disabled which is why the box is moving so fast, if you enable vsync everything will look normal! 🙂

With the exception of nenesismk2, it was obvious from your replies that you were all as confused as me.

I enabled vertical sync and sure enough, the cube rotated at what I would call normal speed. This does beg the question however, why would there be this choice of setting vsync.......benefits or not? In other words, should this be enabled or disabled?

Vsync syncs each frame to the refresh of the monitor, preventing some artifacting/tearing that can occur if the video card outputs an image faster than the monitor's refresh rate. I never notice it though so i leave vsync off for gaming.
and for dxdiag-ing 😛

Thanks guys. If you want the answer, this is the place to post. But if this is the answer, what's the question?
