C&C 3 fails to load and says to install DX9. Will that solve the problem?

Thanks. :)

I just downloaded and installed it, and it's so good that I'm starting to use it as my everyday OS. :)

Thanks for your help.

7 is what Vista was supposed to be, and actually probably has fewer bugs. :)

It's faster and less annoying. They fixed the major annoyances with UAC. It boots fast. Programs load up instantly. It doesn't have the problems with disk performance.

Basically I use it daily now. It's better than XP and Vista. :)

I second that notion SickBeast. Windows 7 so far is ridiculous.

Installing CoH on DX9 card AWP. I will keep you updated.

Have you tried compatibility mode? I realize that might seem obvious, but many folks are forgetting to try that after reading about similar situations.

guess what? If you disable UAC there is no UAC annoyaces. UAC was only put in there to protect the average dumbass pc user, How may of those do you suppose there are? Hence why UAC created =) I am excited about windows 7 even though I believe Vista has been bashed unprovacetively.

UAC is actually a good idea. I don't use it yet because of rivatuner but I would if I could.
It helps minimize damage to the OS by preventing unauthorized changes to your OS.

Say you are drawing something with paint and then suddenly you get a UAC prompt...Something's not right. Not only are you warned about there being possible spyware, adware on your PC but you've also prevented it from running (hopefully).

Windows 7 lets you specify that programs you choose to run should be allowed -- a good refinement to Window's Vista's UAC.

Turn off UAC and no more annoyances. I'm reluctant to jump on Windows 7 because I don't want to see some of the apps I have just flat out not run and drivers not work properly.

We will see.

Wow this is very good news, can't wait for Windows 7 to be released :)

It's an open beta... http://www.microsoft.com/windo...s-7/beta-download.aspx

Go grab the sucker and try it out for yourself. I just installed it on an old extra HD, and set my rig to boot from that HD.

To keep this post somewhat on topic, I installed DX9 by downloading this: http://www.microsoft.com/downl...2cd92a3&displaylang=en and WoW has been running flawlessly.

I have win 7 running very well in a VM....unable to do gaimg of course, but i do like the quick boot, lack of UAC (which lets face would come up at the most stupid instances).

Have you installed the MP3 bug fix?

Sounds like you need to install DX9 first, which isn't surprising as the DX9 runtime wasn't included with Vista either, although it is surprising that MS is still not including it Win7. Also seems like a lot of people gushing over Win7 haven't used Vista extensively or at all based on some of the comments.

RivaTuner works fine with UAC, all it does is prompt you at start up

Just a warning, this open beta is until Aug. If Win7 isn't out by then, I'm not sure what happens.

Win7 = Microsoft's Mohave. :laugh:

Honestly, I had absolutely no problems with Vista for nearly 2 years now. Win7 is pretty much the same, just need to get used to the new taskbar.

Of course I look at it, and it really isn't any different than NT 4.0. The only things that really have changed with each iteration (in terms of functionality) are the icons, and explorer/taskbar/start menu. Everything else has been the same for the last ~15 years.

Heheh ya, seems that way at least. Vista certainly had its problems at launch, but I've been very happy with it as well for over a year. MS has clearly done a better job marketing Win7 though, and the open Beta is certainly a big step in improving adoption/acceptance when it goes RTM.

Windows 7 is more than just marketing. There have been measurable improvements to performance, memory footprint and disk access over Vista.

I agree, infact UAC is the same in Win7 as in Vista,I get same popups so don't see the difference to be honest between the two,UAC never bothered me anyway and I personally think its a good idea keeping it on.

I have had two BSOD in Win7 beta ,to be fair its when SuperAntiSpyware is launched so probably compatibility issue,I forgot what a BSOD looks like lol, never seen one in Vista for years, so seeing one in Win7 was an experience ,anyway its beta so problems are to be expected,I 'm sure retail will be a lot better just like Vista has matured over the years.

No true - Windows 7?s UAC is configurable beyond a simple on/off switch.
