Q. All of my games lockup with my Voodoo5, what do I do?
Q. My Voodoo5 locks up, even in Windows. What's going on?
There are several possible reasons for either game lockups or just plain lockups in general, consult the list below:
Make sure that the Voodoo5 is firmly seated in the AGP socket.
Make sure that you have an IRQ assigned to the VGA, this can be setup in your BIOS.
Open your case and check to make sure both fans are working.
Try setting your AGP aperture to 16 or less to disable it.
Make sure that you have removed any old drivers from previous video cards.
Try flashing your Motherboard with the latest BIOS.
Make sure that the Voodoo5 is on it's own seperate IRQ. The only thing it can be sharing an IRQ with is the "IRQ holder for PCI steering".
If you are overclocking your Voodoo5 or your CPU then try setting them back to their defaults.
To make sure that the Voodoo5 is getting enough power try unplugging non-essential devices to see if that helps any.
Try running the game in single chip only mode.
Try downloading and installing the latest leaked or beta drivers.
It is possible this is being caused by heat also. Try taking the case off of your computer and seeing how things run. If the lockups stop then you have a heat issue with your case. Time to look into a better case or at least better cooling for your current one.
