Hi, I have a laptop with a DVI output, however my LCD monitor's DVI port isn't working. Is there a converter/adapter that I can buy that can go from my laptop's DVI output and hook up to my monitor's VGA input?

I have the DVI cable just need an adapter. Would this be a DVI to VGA adapter?

Also would there be a difference with the adapter, as opposed to doing VGA to VGA?

Most video cards come with one. However they're usually made for connecting to the port on the computer, and plugging in a VGA cable.

You need a female DVI to male VGA connector, if you want it on the end of a DVI cable. (Note one reviewer on that product is a moron, and thinks that the video signal is remaining pure digital all the way to the end of the cable. In actual fact, the adapter does nothing but connect the analog signal pins, which are just carrying the analog signal put out by the DVI-I port, and crossing them to the proper VGA pins.)

Make sure your DVI cable actually has analog pins on it, they're the 4 in a square with a grounding connector in the cross between them. Also make sure your laptop's DVI port is actually DVI-I and not DVI-D, digital only.
