DVI out on DVR, HDMI in on TV... now how do I get sound?

I have a comcast DVR which I hope to use with my new samsung 37" LCD however the back of my DVR only has a DVI port (no HDMI). My TV doesnt have any DVI in ports, just HDMI

I bought a HDMI cable from monoprice, and I'm using a DVI to HDMI adapter from a radeon 4000 series videocard. while the video looks great I cant get any sound, I've tried putting the componant cables (red/white) into every port on the back of the TV but none of them seem tied to any of the HDMI ports.

How do I go about getting sound in this case? I dont think that HDCP is a concern because I get video from the DVI port as it stands, so is there a cable that has a DVI port and two componant (red/white) on one end with HGMI on the other? is there a setting on the TV that I'm missing?

I did some googling and some searching here on the forums but it appears everyone just wants to connect game consoles to monitors

Do you have the manual so you can check with audio is assigned to which video source by default? You may need to go into the TV's options to select analog audio with the HDMI input vs. HDMI audio. Model of TV?

I looked briefly through the menu's and didnt see anything obvious, but should I expect to find a setting buried somewhere?

If you post the model number, I might be able to find the manual and help you hunt. There probably is an option somewhere in the menu that you have to select for it to work how you want it to. You'll need to make sure you're hooked up to the correct audio input though, or it won't work even if you do turn on the right setting in the menu.

EDIT: if it's a LN37A550, hook up to HDMI 2 and use the analog connections that are right next to the HDMI inputs.

Alright, on the back of the LCD it says model line: LN37A550P3FX2A

thanks for all the help so far

Why don't you just call Comcast and see what you have to do to exchange the DVR? You don't say if your current one is SD or HD, but both have HDMI now, at least they do here. Since you are just 2 states away from me, I gotta think that it's the same there too.

Well last night the manual I was looking at wat the LN37A550, so I think that's part of the solution above. Are you plugged into HDMI #2 and is the audio connected to the analog audio input just next to that?

I thought I tried every combination of HDMI and audio ports but I could be mistaken... HDMI 2 would be the one on the side correct?
