Hey guys, was wondering if it's possible to hook up a DVI monitor to a vga output through a converter? Putting together a new pc and was wondering if I could hook up my DVI monitor to a regular vga output on my motherboard to tide me over for a bit while I shop around for a video card.

Thanx.

The only way this would work is if your monitor accepts analog in (through either a VGA or DVI-I input). If your monitor only accepts digital in, then there's no way to take that analog signal without running it through an expensive converter.

Tnx, I thought it was more complicated than digital to analog conversion but wasn't sure. Won't bother buying a dongle then.

I used to have a DVI-only monitor, but which came with an adapter to connect to a VGA d-sub output. Yes, the monitor would have to support analogue in through the DVI connector, but these things do exist. If it didn't come with your monitor though, I'd guess it isn't supported.
