there's a lot on that site that would work...but this one is fine

that cable is DVI-D and he needs a DVI-I cable. the DVI-D won't fit in the monitor. but the monitor should come with a DVI cable. so i don't see why you'd want a different one. but MonoPrice.com is a good site.

DVI-D works with DVI-I. DVI-I includes both analog and digital signals on the cable. DVI-D just digital. DVI-D works with DVI-I ports...DVI-I will not fit in DVI-D ports

And that monitor will not come with a DVI cable

true, but for example, my 17" LCD monitor that needs only a DVI-I cable, can't accpet a DVI-D cable cause the connector on the monitor doesn't have the extra links. So i use a DVI-I cable that came with my monitor. the graphic card has both. but not the monitor. if i am wrong i'm srry. this is how it is with my monitor. maybe it's different with his.

You are thinking backwards. DVI-I has extra connectors, you are most likely using a DVI-D cable.

Why not get one of the DVI-I incase he ever needs to use the analog? (he prolly wont and the beige cable isn't as cool as black 😛) the only use I can think of for analog DVI is a CRT monitor with DVI input (rare).

Most DVI display devices (TVs, monitors) will not accept a DVI-I cable. They require a DVI-D cable.

Thanks for the replies guy. I need to buy HDMI cable as well for my TV, so I think I will purcahse DVI-D. Hopefully that works. 🙂

Make sure you get the right one, dual link or single link. That monitor's probably single link since it's not 20+"

It won't matter if you get a dual link. Dual link will work fine with any resolution.
