DVDXCopy Gold.....$119 MSRP can easily be done with the freeware dvdshrink (transcoding) and dvdfab (split to two DVD-Rs) and dvd burning software of your choice. Plus you don't have annoying 321studio screens, driver crash conflicts, works on toshiba dvd players, doesn't prevent making backups of backups, etc.

Hey.. first Doom9 was over on FwFlash, now this I couldn't be happier.

I can vouch for these programs, especially with the ability for DvdShrink to change streams to 'still-picture' compression, thereby not messing with pointers like you woul dhave to otherwise do. With a little work with IfoEdit and MenuEdit, you can cleany cut out sections entirely.

But, one warning. Some people have been selling DvdShrink [a freeware tool] under their own name, and you might have even seen it at your local CompUSA box. They even stol Pinnacle's box! If you see such a collection in a retail store in a box, let the manager know right away; they will pull it off the shelf. Don't pay for something that misappropriates credit... [DvdSpooge :frown: ]

yep seen a lot of those products being shelved. They just leech doom9s site onto a cd and sell it as a 1click solution for xvid and dvds. Stay away from those products

DVDDecrypter 3.1.6.0 -> DVD2One -> IMGTool 1.00.4

This method is by far the best / fastest / easiest. I don't like menus and only need AC3 or DTS.

The second copy is as easy as DVDDecrypter -> IMGTool

The above process always fits on ONE DVD. Almost all movies are 4-6GB and usually removing the extra sound alone makes it the 4.7GB. I've yet to see the loss of video quality.

I prefer DVD Decryptor, DVD2One and Copy2DVD. I use to burn with RecordNow but it would screw up movies about hour into it. Wouldn't play on my apex and other friends stand alone players. Started using copytodvd and it has never made a bad copy. Plays on my son's apex and other friends that wouldn't play when record Now was used.

Hmm... I switched to RecordNow Max for my DVD recording a couple of months ago, and have had no problems with it at all. I burn at 2x (max for my burner) and always verify the data after burning. Was using Nero for DVD, but it gave me some compatibility problems.

Just bought Pinnacle Instant Copy. The stinky thing can't copy write protected and it clam that it can copy if you are the rightful owner.:| I used DVDShrink and it was good but not 100%. On PC it play just fine but on DVD players it have problems toward the end. I gonna try DVDDecrypter and see how it hold up. Thanks guy.

quick note:
A test option was enabled on 0.15.0 ...new version fixed this problem...so do download again 0.15.1 released today June 22.

I will most likely do a dvdshrink and dvdfab guide today (Sunday) since both are totally revamped or include new features, interface, etc. from their predecessors.

DVDShrink then Nero is the way I go and it has been flawless on everything I tried.
Half the stuff I threw at DVDXCopy would not work like Sopranos or Band of Brothers.

I don't mean this to put anyone down, but since I'm a happy user of DVD Shrink, I'm compelled to point out that the maker of DVD Shrink named his product "DVD Shrink"; i.e, with a space between the D and the S. Since often rip-off software, etc., is given a name close to that of the ripped-off product, I think it's helpful to pay attention to details like this. Plus it's apparently how the developer wishes it to be written.

I looked at Copy2DVD and IMGTool 1.0.0.4 is much easier.

IMGTool usta only make an image and then you would burn that with DVDDecrypter but the new version burns straight from a folder that has the VIDEO_TS folder in it.

Nero Sux for DVD. I could never get something to work on both Apex and XBOX - It would work on one or the other. Zero issues since burning with IMGTool. I also have DVD-R cause DVD+R has even more issues with the noted players.

mrbass, did you notice that the release notes that you printed for version 0.15.1 indicate a date of "22.03.2003" (March 22, 2003)? Now, unless someone has copied the name and general interface of DVD Shrink and created another product named "DVD Shrink," I'm using version 2.3 of this program.

EDIT: By the way, I got DVD Shrink 2.3 from www.dvdshrink.org. Release date on version 2.3 is 14/6/2003 (June 14, 2003).

I just installed the new DVD Shrink and i gotta say it can be abit wierd to use...not like the old one.
It does rock though,

Every dvd i have backed up plays just fine when I burn with Nero, so I am not sure why people think it sucks...IMG tool is just a front end to Nero anyway isnt it?

those were release notes for DVDFAB ...sorry for not being clearer...and yes I did cuss out the author, Joerg and told him to get more sleep. He did correct it to June instead of March.

you do realize that nero is required for imgtool when burning from video_ts it's using the nero api.
