Real DVD's are 9.something gigs, DVDr is 4.7 do the math.

Real DVD's contain more than just audio/video of the actual movie. So the math would be:

Total Content minus extra crap equals "fits most of the time". Math done.

I really wish DVDShrink offered something more than just "Still Pictures" which still takes up a decent chunk of room. I set it to this if I don't care about the feature at all. There should just be a delete option that just displays a blank screen for that specific file instead of a sequence of still images.

Pay for Nero Recode 2 if you wish for title blanking removal feature.

Does DVD XCOPY Platinum or whatever compress better? They brag about some high tech compression process I believe...
I believe your a prime candidate for DVD XCopy Platinum. If you don't wish to spend a few minutes reading how to use DVDShrink then DVD XCopy and you = marriage made in heaven. Good luck with that program.

copying your dvds is great for people who have dvd players in their cars.
Amen. Very little in this world annoys me more than Disney's new tact of putting a ton of non-skippable movie previews on all their DVDs. So when the kids want to watch a movie, you have to wait 10 minutes on the retail DVDs before getting to the menu (or FF, requiring more remote work while you're trying to drive). Using DVDShrink to strip out all the crap and have the movie play automatically when inserted is a lifesaver in more ways than one.

Loved it for over a year with no probs on dozens of backups until last night.

New release Lion King 1 1/2 may exhibit newest prevention for backups with dvdshrink. Backup either full disk or movie-only displays ?audio file not supported? for main movie file. Can?t get dvdr, dvdrw or file to play audio(video is fine) no matter what I do. It may be time for another revision.
Any ideas/work arounds?

Most retail DVDS are dual layered, meaning that it can hold up to 9.2 gig of data. All DVDRWs right now can only burn single layered dvds, which is 4.6gig. I've burned about 20 dvds so far, and I've always used the auto compression feature in dvd shrink to backup the entire DVD. But recently I've been watching a couple of Soprano dvds on my dell 20" lcd, and the artifacts are very noticable. I looked at my backups, and noticed that the movie files were compressed around 40 to 50%! Which obviously explained it. But even then, I can hardly notice the difference on TV. But now I'm more careful about the compression, and make sure that its always at least 70 to 80%, even if I have to take out some extras.

Question about DVDShrink:

I just used about 2-3 wks ago for the 1st time and got Finding Nemo backed up with subtitles, no other extra featurs. I want the sub-titles, but can't seem to get it to show up now when I'm trying to back up another copy since the 1st one I cut off the beginning and the very end credits, so you don't see how/where the other fishes in the tank end up.

Anyone help? I did the right click thing in re-master and picked show normal english subtitles, but when I play the movie (from HD, after rip), subtiles does not show up (from PowerDVD player), when before I could make it to show up. Any ideas? Tried it with another DVD and can't seem to get the subtitles to show either after the rip. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling DVDshrink, no go.
