Win7 Pro 64 bit. All the latest drivers and OS patches are installed.
A64 dual core 5600+
2GB of high quality PQI RAM.
ECS 7500M AM2+ motherboard.
Radeon X1550 PCIe x16.
1 terabyte Segate with normal speeds and cache (nothing fancy)
I built this system myself from scratch. Have been doing so for many years. I skipped over Vista and went straight to Win 7. Been having all kinds of issue but most of them I fix myself.
All controllers are in UDMA mode and the one controlling the DVD drive is UDMA 4, hard drive is UDMA mode 6. DVD is a high quality, expensive Plextor that never had any issues before.
Been using Win 7 and my DVD drive without issue for months. Just recently, in the middle of a session (not after a reboot or after installing any kind of software) it started reading very slowly. When I put a movie in it takes a minute or more to spin up and get running with VLC. Same with Windows Media Player. This is weird cuz it seemed to happen between DVD's. One was good and read fine (quickly) and the next one in was giving me issues.
Also tried ripping some Spanish language course DVD' (I own them) with DVD Shrink and its the same problem. It used to only take about 3 minutes to do the initial analysis and about 7-15 minutes for a complete rip. Now it takes about half an hour for the analysis and 1 hour or more for a rip.
Obviously something is amiss with either my drive or windows reading the drive. Have installed nothing recently so I cant imagine a new program or DLL or something is fucking with my machine. Thought maybe it was some spyware or virus that messes up drive reads but my full system scans have found nothing.
For some unknown reason the drive just reads much slower, and theres no reason why it should. Other than the drive itself is malfunctioning, but then I dont think it would just suddenly happen between discs.
Any other required info, please ask.
