my dvdrom on one of my computers isn't openly properly.. if I press in on the little pinhole and then press the eject button right afterwards it ejects fine.. but if I close the tray back and hit the eject again.. it does the same thing.

the green light is off until I hit the eject then it flashes like it's trying to open.. and It sounds like it's trying to open but gets stuck... then it flashes again like it's closed and trying to find the cd.

other then it not opening properly it works fine, it will load cds/dvds fine.

just wondering if I fix it so I don't have to stick something in the pinhole everytime I want to open it.

What happens if you open My Computer, then right click on that optical and select EJECT?

You didn't say what make the DVD drive is, but Lite-On's are infamous for having that problem. I have three in the lab right now that behave the same -- will not open the tray by either pressing the front button or selecting eject. If yours is a Lite-On I will bet it will work if you open it using the manual eject and then place a disk in the tray. All three of the ones I have will open the tray if a disk is in the tray, but will not if the tray is empty. Try that and report back here if it works.

you are correct.. I had left a cd in it and I pressed the eject, and it opened fine.. took it out and closed the tray. tried to reopen and it stuck like usual.

weird problem.. i'm not sure if it's a lite-on or not, don't feel like taking it apart to check right now. but regardless that's the problem. oh well, I can live with it.
