DVDDecrypter - end of life!

what's a good application for ripping DVDs that don't contain encryption...like if a friend gives me a DVD containing home video?

What a load of crap. Yeah, the US government is for the people... As long as you are certain people.

Errr....the developer is British I think.

I thank him for all the hard work that he had put in the last 2+ years of DVDDecrypter. It would be nice if his source code somehow got leaked to the public...but that's just a dream

With 3.5.4.0 being the last version, it makes sense for everyone to disable the "check for new versions" feature, as obviously there won"t be any. Of course what I really mean is that you should all stop using the program out of respect for the company?s rights.

The author mentioned that he'd like users to prevent the program from attempting automatic updates. Could this mean:

a) His statement is double-speak, and he (or someone else) intends to release unpublished updates through the automatic update channel?
b) The company forcing him to shut down the software might release 'updates' that intentionally maim DVDDecrypter?
c) Company will be monitoring IP addresses from the automatic update requests?

Anyone happen to have the page cached? I can't seem to get through to CDfreaks.com. I can ping it, but nothing else goes through.

Sucks that this is being killed. It was an excellent piece of software. It was nice too to have a piece of freeware that did what it was supposed to, without crashing every few minutes. I don't believe I ever had DVD Decrypter crash on me.

Just checked Slashdot (think that's like, the first time I went there) and all the sites it linked to concerning this story seem to be having trouble. This must be the "Slashdot effect" I've seen mentioned.

These two. The company that lawyered him is taking over control of the website(s) that are pinged to check for updates, so they can log IPs and could ship out a fake trojan "update" to trap users.

Well, one nice thing about this:

"The domain name will be transferred over to the company by the end of the week..."

Perhaps they'll be nice and careless, and the updated Whois info might say something interesting?

What next, DVD Shrink? :disgust:

Actually, The author of DVD Shrink will also not be releasing any new versions of his software. Because he now works for Ahead Software (Nero). Notice how similar Nero Recode is to DVD Shrink? Its because the same person wrote both of them.

wow that really took me by surprise, dvd decryptor was the best at ripping all my movies. Im gonna go cry.. and then get drunk!

Well, dvd decrypter will still work out until the studios put out some new form of uber-great copy protection. Until then, dvd decryptor will still work, you just don't have the main website to download it from.
