DVD2SVCD

One dvd to one CDR? Good luck if you want it in SVCD format. If you don't care about set-top watching try divx. The kwang templates are fairly good but you still lose lots of quality.

I use it often, and the quality is very good. I have only used the default settings since I am satisfied with the results. It takes 2-3 CDRs per movie, but CDRs are inexpensive.... 😉

I use it to convert high quality DivX movies that I find on the newsgroups.

It works very well & leaves me with nice bin & cue SVCD images that I can burn & then watch the movie on my home DVD player.

check out VCDhelp.com

after browsing that website you should have all your questions answered, even the one's you didn't think of yet.

I think another good website is doom9.org

With DVD2SVCD it's a piece of cake. I have fit up to 80 min movies onto 1 SVCD. No noticeable loss of quality on the 27" TV.

CCE is the best MPEG2 encoderI have seen, and combined with DVD2SVCD it can do amazing things.

I'm a newbie to DVD2SVCD as well. Very easy to use if you follow Doom9.org's guide. Don't know much of the features of the program, I just use the defaults and away I go. DVD to SVCD mpeg2 quality takes up 2 CDRs. Ripped and converted in 5hr 15mins on a single 2.8Ghz Xeon, much faster than the old dual P3-733 on bro's rig which took 9hr 30mins. TMpg supports HT now, but haven't tried that yet. I doubt it can lower the time, will try tomorrow.

I'd like to see the settings that allow 80 min/cdr without quality loss. I use the defaults most of the time (~50 min/cdr) and I notice quality loss lots of times. I'm also watching on a 54' tv though. Most people I see never let the bitrate fall below 2500 so thats even less than 50 min per cdr.

Where can I get a version of CCE that is stable with the current version of DVD2SVCD?

I have tried 2.6x with it and it always crashes, so I am forced to use tmpgenc, which is fine, but kinda slow.

CCE 2.5 demo is available from doom9

As far as settings, I use all default, CCE, 4-pass VBR. I keep hearing TMPG requires at least 50% higher bitrate to look as good as CCE, which one are you using?

It always dismays me that I can never get DVD2SVCD to work - I have even asked friends to try it also - and none of them seem to be able to get it to work.

The only programs that seem to work perfectly for me are DVD Decryptor and DVDx

With DVD2SVCD I keep getting "I/O Error 112" for some reason

look through their boards at forum.doom9.org. And make sure this hasn't been addressed if you are going to post there, or they will bite your head off.

(edit) Btw, if you manage to rip the VOB's with other tools, you can just point the DVD2SVCD to the IFO and off you go

Here's the dilemma....back in the good ol days about 2 years ago DVD2SVCD questions were asked like crazy. Now though there are multiple guides, faqs, references which answer about 95% of questions out there. People by human nature refuse to read. So doom9 forums implemented 3 day wait period once you sign up..now it's 5 days. Good reason for it. You can browse vcdhelp.com guess it's now dvdrhelp.com forums where you'll see the same question repeated about 4 times per month. Good luck finding your answers wading through all that stuff on dvdrhelp.com. Though the moderators definitely know their stuff.

Example of the @%#@% out there..check this guys "bug report". .Not a bug report
Clearly he didn't install aspi layer......duuuhhh which is says to install on the homepage dvd2svcd.org
If one would spend 30 mins to an hour reading you'd bet set pretty much for good when using DVD2SVCD.
