Get that one, I didn't eve know that NEC had came out with a new one! I have the 2405 and love it. I assume that the 35xx series is just as good but faster. I haven't heard any complaints about it.

Pioneer or NEC. Pioneer tends to be the most reliable. The NEC is the most flexible (allows DVD+R Booktype change to DVD-ROM after installing a 3rd party BIOS). Speeds are swapping back and forth between the two. I have a Pioneer 108 and a NEC 3500a in my main burner. Nero will also allow me to write to both at the same time at 8x for DVD-R media from ISO files.

Note that the leapfrogging right now is dual-layer burn speeds. 16x is the max record rate, but media in almost impossible to find. Burning faster than recommended media speeds can lead to settop player incompatibilities.

I like my pioneer. I picked it up a Frys for $100. Frys is also the only place i can occassionally find 16x media at. and only in Memorex. a 50pack was $20. Next time i find it a i guess i should pick up a few spindles.
