DVD won't start

New Dell 1.4 gig with win 2000. Installed WinDVD. DVD won't initiate. Any suggestions where to start debugging?
Thanks

Any DVD that is 'PC Friendly' always seems to have a problem when it autoruns (it runs the setup installation first)

Are you able to playback the DVD when you are in WinDVD?

It does ask me to open up WinDVD to play it. However, in Win DVD it just freezes at the beginning with a map of the different "regions".

Do you have DMA enabled for the DVD drive? Is your DVD/CD-ROM listed in device manage with no ! ?

This is a long shot, but make sure there arn't any other DVD players pre-installed by Dell, because software DVD players will quite often conflict with each other.

hm... if your DVD drive is detected by windows, try opening winDVD and setting the drive in options... if you have more than one cd-rom, windvd usually uses the primary or first drive letter as the defualt drive... as for DMA, some drives don't work well with it on... if it IS on, try turning it off, if it's off vice-versa... = ) good luck
