dvd software crashes

ok, everytime i try to open up a dvd player (powerdvd, windvd, freedvd), it crashes. i have watched a movie on it once before, but then all of a sudden its not working. the dvd drive can be read and it can play cd audio (or mp3s on a cd), though.
freedvd gives me an error about decoding, but im pretty sure my vid card can decode (its a g2 mx400, i have watched movies on my old comp using it). anyone know whats going on?

Reinstall your DVD codec program.. Give it a whirl.. Not sure if a GF2 can play DVD... Never tried it on that low of a card. May just require a driver update for your Videocard.

i have installed and uninstalled windvd and powerdvd a few times already. i know the g2 works because i used to watch dvds on my old computer, which used the same vid card and power dvd. i have updated the drivers, trying both the latest leadteak and nvidia drivers. i even tried rolling them back. no luck :/

Yes, that's true, you shouldn't have any problem with that vid card cause I used to use a TNT2 Ultra for DVD viewing and it did not have dvd acceleration
but it played, just a bit jerky at times so I used the hardware decoder mostly, but it still played without it and didn't freeze at all.

What are the specs of your computer?

p4 2.6c @ 3.25ghz
1 gb ocz pc 3500 ram
geforce2 mx400 (i know it sucks..)
abit ic7-g mobo

i plan on getting a new vid card pretty soon. do you guys think that is the problem (maybe theres a conflict now?)?
ive uninstalled both the card and the dvd rom. i cant think of anything else to do

From what I see from your specs, you shouldn't be having any problems at all.
It's almost like there's some incompatibility with a piece of hardware that reacts with your dvd software.
Your vid card should have no problems playing dvds and neither should your cpu.
Have you tried a different vid card? Even a slower card if you have one.
How about trying a different dvd rom, or trying this dvd rom in a different machine to see if it does the same thing?
