DVD Shrinking

Im trying to make a *backup* of The Bourne Supremacy, and im having some trouble. I cant do a straight dvd shrink from the DVD cause i get an error.... so I use dvd decryptor to rip the image, then try and shrink it, but same error.... I dont know how to do it now, I dont have any DL dvds.... and its 7.5 gigs

if you're doing this legally, then yeah by all means go figure it out. If you're doing it illegally, dont bother because you should honestly just wait until dual layer becomes cheaper. No reason to waste a lot of DVD's and time right now for something that's noticeably less quality than the original

Rip to DVD Decrypter, then use Re-Author in DVD Shrink. Who the hell backs up the menus and extras anyway. I mean, WTF? Just back up the movie.

What HT setup do you have that you can "tell" the difference between an original DVD & a proper shrink backup PoPPeR?

He can't. He just read it somewhere there's a difference.

um, actually if the DVD is really big/long, and you have to shrink it below something like 60%, then you have to be pretty fvcking blind to not be able to see any quality loss. Above that is fine, but there are movies out there where it's just not worth it

Bourne Supremecy won't back up fully, you need to rip JUST the movie, no menus, I had the same problem.

In that case, you'll need DL media or buy a 2nd copy of the DVD.

DVD Shrink will do everything for you and will give you the choice to take out unwated stuff such as extra's and the foreign languages. I have used it for over 30 DVD's with no problom, hell it will even burn it for you.

You can back this title up with the menus and extra stuff. However, it's not worth doing in this particular case because they take up a LOT of space. Probably best to use the menu, deleted scenes, and movie only (extra stuff in BS is freakin huge).

DVD shrink may be screwing up in this particular movie with a silly anti-pirate thing built in (one example is a loop of a kid with a soccer ball or something). You can either use the most recent dvd shrink to see if it can get around that automatically, or use DVD shrink to put a still image in place of the particular offending part, or try using VOB Blanker (DVDRHELP.com has a guide on this prog). Or, simplest, just use the re-author option in dvd shrink and compress only the movie itself to 4.5 gigs.

Iono what you guys are talking about, but for a lot of movies, I can notice a difference between shrink and original on my 32" toshiba flat, non-hd.

Basically anything under 75% is almost obvious.

EDIT: Have you tried using other programs? I like this other program called DVD Remake. I love how you can just right-click and remove things completely. Even menus, you can delete buttons with a right-click select. I used to ahve to use IFOedit, but this is so much easier.

I have been using DVD Shrink since 2.0 and never had any issues with it. Exept Loss of quality, but thats a given.
