It is like comparing Apples and Oranges... they are both fruit... but you can't compare them.

I use DVD Decrypter to put the files on HD, then I use IFO edit to edit what menus and such and to wipe out bonus crap I don't want. Then I use DVD Shrink to transcode the DVD files to fit on a 4.3GB dvd disc.

Hope that gives you an idea of what your asking. For help... http://www.videohelp.com I don't give lessons ;)

They both rip. They both burn.

DVD Shrink gives you less quality but puts the movie on one disc (assuming DVD9).

DVD Decrypter puts the whole thing on your HDD. If it rips DVD9 you have a huge Video TS folder. Unless you can burn DVD9 media, your only choice is to span discs. DVDFab does this very nicely.

Hence I use DVDDecrypter and DVDFab when I deal with DVD9 discs. And DVDDecrypter when I deal with DVD5 discs. I prefer to have the entire video at its original quality, including sound.

What do I burn the Video TS folder with? Depends: I have both Sonic Record Now Deluxe and TMPG DVD Author.

Can't you use DVDshrink for getting rid of the bonus stuff? Why IFO?

DVD Decrypter comes in handy for turning those concert DVDs into MP3s for my iPod.

Oops, did I say that out loud? :)

Anyone ever figure out why the concert CD is more expensive than the DVD. I'm not talking pennies either, I'm talking like $5.

DVD shrink can remove stuff but NOT keep menus. Learning the complexity of editing IFOs allows you to remove buttons from menus and take out bonus things while keeping menus.

How can you tell if a DVD is a DVD9 disc or a DVD5 ?
Will it say it somewhere on the original or is there a program to do this with?
I ask because my father got a burner a few months ago. He rarely used it until I got mine and told him to back up his original DVD's. I have backed up mine with no problems at all. Just about every one he has tried gives him some error about it being too big for one dvd. WOuld these be DVD9 dvd's??

thanks

I use both. Decrypter for ripping the DVD to the hard drive. Shrink for making it smaller to fit on a 4.7gb dvd that I can burn for a backup.
