DVD-ROM Question

I'm gonna be getting the TOSHIBA DVD ROM, 16X DVD, 48X CD ROM, Model SD-M1502. Does it matter if I connect it with an IDE ATA 66/100 Cable or an IDE ATA-33 Cable? Will it be faster using a 66/100 cable? Thx.

It doesn't matter since optical drives are only ATA33 anyway; I have mine connected with an ATA33 cable. You might want to check out this post before you commit to the 16x Toshiba.

So you can't an ATA66 or ATA33 cable?

I was curious because I'm getting a Pioneer 106s DVD and a Plextor 16/10/40 CDRW, and I'll probably have to daisy chain.

So does that mean I get an ATA33 cable or what should I do?

I have a pioneer 16X. Everytime I tried to watch a movie, it would give me a bad disk error. I was getting PISSED. My DVD was brand new, and so was the drive. I wanted to either blow up or tak eback my DVD drive.

*looked at cable and saw I only had a normal 40 pin cable*

Whoops, works like a charm now.

Wasn't it bad to mix ATA66/100 device with ATA33 devices on the same channel? Or was it a think of the past already?

MulLa: That is a thing of the past. It's bad to try and use master and slave at the same time, that hurts performance of both. But ATA rating can be different.

Prince of Persia: An ATA66 cable should work fine. ATA66 cables can carry an ATA33 signal just fine.

TunaBoo: That would be 40 *wire* vs 80 wire. All ATA cables have 40 pins. The ATA66/100 cables have 40 extra grounding wires, but they don't connect to pins.
