DVD-Rom problems...

Hi all, I'm having a really weird problem between my DVD-ROM drive (Toshiba SD-M1402) and my motherboard (MSI K7TPro-2a). When the computer starts up, the drive isn't recognized by the BIOS (where it lists all the drives connected to the IDE controllers) if there's a disc in the drive. However, if the drive is empty the DVD-rom is properly recognized. Any suggestions for a remedy? New 4-in-1's? Do I need to change a Windows setting (XP Professional)? Any help would be appreciated, as this is a frustrating problem.

Very strange problem...have you checked to make sure the drive is set properly..master or slave...under device manager is it set UDMA 2???

also check and make sure the ata cable is properly connected to the drive...

the other you can try is to uninstall the IDE channel it is on..Primary/secondary i ndevice manager and then reboot and let WinXP reinstall it...

if the bios is not always detecting ur dvd drive... then the 4in1's won't do much (since it's for windows). try what nealh (hi) suggested. if that fails, try flashing the bios.
