DVD-Rom experts please reply

Well there ain't alot to learn about them. But anyway I don't know which to get and not to get. I do know Pioneer and Toshiba make some of the best(so I've heard). But is Pioneer the only brand that makes the slot load DVD-Rom? Also is Aopen any good as far as quality and reliablility?

Pioneer makes the only slot-load DVD-ROM I know of, but I'm sure someone else does too. I've had three Toshiba DVD-ROMs on three different systems, and they are very reliable. If DAE is important, get a Lite-On drive. They are good too.

I have the 16/48 Lite-on drive. On storage review it was rated the fastest on dvd ripping, which is about all I use that drive for anyway. I was able to rip Hackers to my harddrive last night (about 4gigs) in less than 8 minutes. It is also quieter than most other cd or dvd drives.
