DVD-ROM DXr2, ROM broken...

I was going to sell this but I think I'd rather keep it since I bought it for so much. The DVD-ROM's drawer will open up and accept the disc but when I hear it try to read it it kind of "struggles" then just doesn't do anything and the light goes off. If I go into My Computer and check it out it says there is no disc in the driver. I don't know what kind of problem this is. I got the drive off of eBay along with the DXr2 card. I know I hooked the IDE cable up the right way and also the power wire, I just don't know the problem. I asked the guy who sold it to me what he sold me and he said "it worked when it left my mailbox". The ass offered a refund but that didn't seem to come through. Could someone help me out? Is technical support the right section to post this problem or is highly technical the answer? Please get back to me.

I had a creative 6x DVD with the Dxr2 board and had similar problems. THe drive worked awesome for 2 years and then it suddenly stopped, I didnt notice what triggered it though. I switched to Win2k about the same time so I think there may have been some bad drivers in there for the DVD but like I said, not 100% sure. What OS are you running?

Sorry for the double post but clicked too soon -

- Check your cables to see if you are using UDMA or Regular ones
- Check your Device manager to make sure you are running DMA or PIO
- Check the jumpers on the drive to make sure they are properly set

I'm running Windows XP and I have double checked most stuff but it seems my computer is kind of special for this. I'm not sure on what to do. I plugged in the power cable and IDE cable the way it was configured when I first got it then I played around with the jumpers not knowing too much of what I was doing and it did the exact same thing. I think it's more of a broken thing than configurations wouldn't you? This is the second reason I'm considering going back to Windows 98. XP has messed up my drivers on my Voodoo5 also and that was a big spoiler.

i have a creative pc dvd dxr2 kit with drive and dxr2 decoder card ... i purchased it off ebay as brand new and sealed, and used it for about 1 year with no problems at all .... However, now, it can no longer play silver colored dvd's (sometimes, but rarely) (can only play gold ones) ... and has problems reading cd-r's ....
looks like the life span of this drive is about 2 years or so ....
still love the decoder card though.
i think the decoder card is built for win98 only ... because i use to run win2000 on my system with the dxr2 card, and it was very unstable .. it liked to freeze up completely when i watched movies on it .. and the way that win2000 initializes the card at startup, causes a constant "trash output" to the tv .. you'll see this when you turn on your tv, and connect it to your dxr2 card, and are also running win2000 ... even though you're not using the dxr2 card, the output to the tv is a distorted signal all the time ...
