DVD-ROM Drive

A while ago i bought a no name DVD drive from BestBuy. It worked fine for the first couple of months. however now it is skipping a lot. I will be watching a movie and i hear a whirring noise and the movie stop plays like a slideshow amongst the DVD players clicking noises as if it were accessing something like a HDD.

I was wondering is there anything i can do to save this annoying POS or am i forced to spend more money on a new one?

No the disks aren't scratched, i have tried many different DVD's.

sounds like the gears are striped inside the optical drive's case. or , the mechanism that raises the cd up into the air off the tray is not raising the cd high enough and the cd is on an angle and rubbing inside the drive...or the cd is being raised TOO high and is doing the same thing. YOur best bet is to toss the thing and get a fresh one. It will save you time, and head-aches.

i hope this helps.

Well personally i would rather not have to spend more money on one as i need another 512mb of memory and some fan controllers.

I wouldn't mind having a little fun tearing apart a DVD-ROM and putting it back together. Anyone know anyway to fix this. I do not care if i void my warranty (that is if this POS ever had a warranty).

Yeah but still i would still like to make a project out of this.I want to rip open the DVD ROM and fix it and put it back together or something.

Does anyone know what i would haveto do to fix this POS?
