DVD-ROM/CDRW drive won't read burned CD's?

I recently got this ECS laptop for my daughter, (which was posted on the hot deals forum):

She is having trouble getting it to see burned CD's. Anyone run into anything like this? Do you think uninstalling and reinstalling the CD drivers would possibly help? She has been able to see original CDs, and install the software on them. She lives about an hour away from me so I have not personally been able to mess with it, and need to help her over the phone.

Not good. If a drive can't read CD's that it has written, it's junk.

Try different blank media first. If the problem persists, then it could easily be the drive.
