DVD RIPPING

I bought a music/video dvd and wanted to save it onto my harddrive as a back up and
to be able to watch it without useing the disc's. Are there any free programs out there
that will do that. I found DVDshrink but it's only for copying dvd's. I don't want to break
any laws by making copies for other people, just for my use.

I use dvdx. With dvd decrypter one of my music video dvds showed up as one big vob. dvdx was able to break it down into chapters or whatever.

Any program that makes DivX rips would be good for you.
700MB is better than 4.7GB and you probably wont notice the loss of quality.
The full version of DivX pro should do alright. If you search around on downloads.com (CNET) there are a few programs that will rip MPEG's and AVI's from a DVD. Some cost money to use fully.

DVDshrink makes ISO's of DVD's. What you do with the ISO's is your business.
If you could find a program that decodes DVD iso's and plays them, you would be in good shape.
I think everyone who tried that got shot down by the MPAA.

What you want is actually linked below. It is Fair Use Wizard. They use to charge - but now there is a light version whose limitations are not many. It will take a several gig movie and get it down small enough where it could fit on a cd. It uses xvid format. It is awesome and easy to use.
