DVD re-authoring

I really enjoy the musical numbers from many of the Disney animated movies and would like to share them with my daughter. I have all the DVDs, but I would like to compile all the musical numbers in original quality and see if I can squeeze it onto one or two DVD9s.

I am familiar with Final Cut Pro.

So far, I've tried using Handbrake (h.264)--->StreamMPEG-->DV-->Final Cut (edit down to just the musical numbers)--->Render (NTSC mov) -->DVD Studio

but it just doesn't look as good.

What would be a better way? What codecs should I use at each step? How can I best preserve the original quality?

Personally I would cut each scene out using DVDShrink (no compression). Then use DVD Author from Pegasus to create the DVD with menu, etc.

Is there a way to more precisely DVD Shrink the scenes? The selection window doesn't let you go down to frame level. Would I still have good quality if I DVD Shrinked with no compression then MPEG Streamed to Quicktime DVPRO50 or Animation codec and did the editing and authoring.

I couldn't find DVD Author by pegasus anywhere.
