I'm short of thinking that it's time for me to invest on a dvd-r/rw.
I was thinking of buying a 8x, and I have seen Lite-on ldw 811-s,Sony dru 530A, and Plextor 8x.
Their prices flanctuate from 200-250 euros.
I have some questions :

1. What do you think of these models. Also if you have any other recommendation plz make it.
2. How much time does a 8x need to write a full 4.7gb dvd approximately?

a) I think all those models are top quality so it depends on personal preferences

b) A 1X burner takes 60 minutes to burn a full DVD. An 8x burner will take 7.5 minutes. Plus, you gotta add a minute or 2 for the open and closing sessions.

I think the Plextor and Lite-on only burn -R at 4X for the moment. Sony announced that they will have a flash for the 530 to go to 8x -R if memory serves. Pioneer's A-07 burns both at 8X and is now shipping ($200 USD). I prefer a Pioneer.

There is a huge difference between 4x & 8x so go for an 8x model for sure. I have the Plextor 708A and it is great! No problems so far except with Nero until they released their latest version.

Get a nec ND-2500A - much cheaper than pioneer, and they both use the same chipset.

Anyways, i love mine. haven't created a single coaster yet, and it burns both DVD+ and DVD- at 8x
