"Any chance this might be a Pioneer?":D:D:D
Dang right...this might beat MysticMan1's deal by $10.
Maybe some that missed out on the Cendyne 4x will be able to do this...

(No offense, Mystic. You're still nominated for President!)

Last time the best cost said it was a 2X, but it turned out to be a 105 (4x), but their rebate seems shady.

Edit: It seems bestcost is somehow affiliated with Cendyne. When you go to their site and send an email to their rebate people it goes to rebates@cendyne.com. Weird.

I don't get it, when Officemax sells a cendyne for $150 people go mad crazy about it even though it happens every week.. Fry's sells this one for $129 and it basically gets no responces?

It's because us poor saps on the Right Coast without a Frys are so damn sick and tired of seeing these great deals in Fry's ads that we could cry! :)

I may have to look into this. I still can return my Cendyne DVD-r/rw drive at Staples if this is only $129 after rebate.

Mrdzone:

I don't think Staples carry "Best Cost" DVD-R, but I could be wrong.

Gonna go check out fry's this afternoon during lunch, would post if I find it.

OK GO - BUY, BUY, BUY!

I went to Sunnyvale Fry's after they said they had 30 in at lunch - and there were 2 left - I opened one and it is a Pioneer DVR-105 including Nero, PowerDVD, audio/IDE cables, a DVD-R and screws - this is not a rebadge, it actually says Pioneer DVR-105 on the drive, it was in a crappy brown cardboard box with an inkjet printed label on it though! ;o)

So now there's only one left!

$249.90 on the box, $199+tax at checkout, $70 MIR, I got a 5 pack of Apple 2x DVD-R's with jewel cases for $14.99 too.

EDIT: it does say 2x on the box, but it says Pioneer DVR-105 on the drive.

just got back from Campbell store, there are about 9 lefts, but the one I grabed is a DVR 104 /2. Anyone knows what the "/2" is for?

simo, do you mind telling me what your serial number starts with. I have a feeling that the later serial numbers tell if you will get a DVR104 or 105

mine starts with BGD

According to another thread, the DVR105s has a serial number that's starts like BL..... I saw a couple of them when I was at cambell, but they were returns. Gonna go back and grab one after work.

I believe the A05 is the retail packaging, and the 105 is OEM. Same with any of the A0* and the 10*.

Yeah, my serial is BLD..... for the Pioneer DVR-105.

For those that are interested - there's no identifying marks on the box - it's just a brown box with a badly printed label on the front, on the back it has the specs on a stick label - and they say it's a 2x. You have to open the box to find out if it's the 105.

Good luck!

so what is the point of knowing the serial# if it's not on the box or anything? Once you open it up, you'll know whether it's a Pioneer 105 or not, right?

Yeah, the serial is on the drive as is "DVD-105, Pioneer Corp" there's no way to tell other than looking at the *drive* not the box.

EDIT: looks like this was a refurb or return or something too as it has a Fry's "manufacturer warranty" sticker on it - hope it works as I've just carved up the box to get the UPC for the rebate! :)

Actually, the serial number is printed on the back of the BOX, so you will know b4 you open the box.

The one I bought (Serial number: BGDxxxx) was brand new sealed. The ones I saw with the BLD are returned, not refurbished drive, and it's pretty common for frys to rebadge their returns and sell it at new price.

Is this one of those rebates that has to be postmarked the day after the sale ends? Which rebate place is it sent to?

I think the Pioneer 105/A05 do not write to cheap media very well, which may be the cause for the high return rate. Anyone know if the newer firmware corrects this problem?
