The price has just changed to $39.99 for the 50Pack.

YMMV

Some disks have been RITEK03 (1x on A05 , 2x on A04 or other models and firmwares)

RITEK03 (DR-47G-02888 written on the very inner media)
The inner ring written in black C1-6L166207118220D17

Some have been Sony 2x (I got one today in my are, still 2x Sony.)

Previous thread with disk info

Sony = K1-3083 10MAK (written on inside rim backwards - you will know when you see it. The inner ring written in black A2VK4309K172 (look for A2VK).

Sony = K1-3083 10MAK (written on inside rim backwards - you will know when you see it. The inner ring written in black A1VK4308K042 (Look for A1VK).

Someone mentioned "The biggest proof is the media label. Sony has A2VK, while LD has A1VK."
But my spindle of A1VK showed up as Sony 2x in Nero Disk info. And burns at 2x. YMMV

Also mentioned, "The A1VK is not limited to LEAD, because I have some and they ID as Sony...2x capable...no coaster yet w/these."

Like I said from previous thread, backup a couple of DVD's using DVD2ONE and Instandcopy that worked great on Apex DVD & Pioneer DVD. The Ironic thing is these Sony Disks don't work with my PS2. Also Nero (the latest version) only gives me the 1X option while RecordNow gives me 2X option on my Pioneer A04. While Ritek disks give me the 2X option with either program. Given the rising price of Ritek DVD-R, this is a excellent price. BTW my disks are A2VK.

If you get the Sony ones, they are 2x (even on my A05)

Or the RITEK03, burn at 2x on older A04's or Sony DVD drives with certian firmware versions.

Twice now, I got the Sony 50pack spindle, and it's the best 2x deal so far at .80c a disk.

Sept1967,

Went to my local PcClub armed with you info. The problem is the inner ring is not visible because the cake box has a spacer obscuring the inner ring markings. My question to you is: Was the information you posted, visible without removing the cover, or was your packaging like the one I just described and you have to purchase, then open it up to see the markings?

Yes the center ring is covered, but you can see "K1-3083 10MAK " laser etched on the disk just outside the center ring without opening the spindle. The RITEK03's also had "DR-47G-02888" laser etched on the disk that you can see without opening the spindle.

Are you sure we are talking about the same packaging? The ones I looked at had the ENTIRE clear center ring area obscured. I looked hard at a couple of packages and there was no lettering visable. This is why I'm wondering if your cake box might be different than the ones I looked at.

Could be. I got 2 spindles, one last week, one yesterday. They both had a black base to the spindle. The writing you could read, was laser etched on the media part of the disk itself, not the covered center ring.

Both of my spindles had this writing on the disk. You have to catch the light just right to see it, but it was there on both.

The A1VK is not limited to LEAD, because I have some and they ID as Sony...2x capable...no coaster yet w/these.

That was my quote. :) I should be getting my 50pk today.

Here is a pic of the second set of writing to look for...easier to show you, then describe it...

Sony2X Ring

See how the "K1-3083 10MAK" is backwards looking at it from the top.
This is from another spindle of 50 I just got. had to stock up while they are there.

Thanks. Not a bad price for RITEK03 disks.
I do hope this year DVD-R disks really start to drop in price.

I went to a different PC CLub, they were completely sold out. Then I decided to go back to the one I visited this morning. I was just about to give up on seeing the "K1-3083 10MAK". After about a minute of intense scrutinizing, I saw a glimpse of what appeared to look like a letter. More scrutinizing and holding up to the light at many different angles.........I saw it! Man!, that is hard to read through a cloudy plastic cake box. The employee finally offered to remove the shrink-wrap and open the container up for me. I got the Sonys.

Special thanks to Sept1967 for the posts.

I was just at PC Club in Seattle and picked up a 25 pack of "A2VK" media for $25. The spindle of 50 for $39 was very tempting, but I had the guy open a container and the first three disks were A1VK (which might or might not burn at 2X speed) while the forth disk was A2VK. So it appears that these spindles might be mixed. I looked at my 25 spindle and they all appear to be A2VK which is identified as Sony 1x or 2X media. I could not read the 50 pack through the plastic because of a spindle cap. The 25 pac hub was clearly visible.

Just burned a couple of disks on my Cendyne 4X drive at 2X speed. Worked and played perfect in my Pioneer DVD player.

Deal is dead...it's now $49.99 for 50pk, which is still good considering they've been Sony 2x DVD-R.

Still $39.99 on the website, which says available at the local store. The stores dont know of the price, so print out the web page, then tell them instore. I had to do that 3 times, worked each time.

They were $39 earlier today at the Seattle, actually Bellevue store. They had about ten spindles on the shelf.

The ultimate important question with these DVD-R disks isn't whether they are compatible, or what speed they write at, the ultimate question is: will these disks work three years or even longer from now? That is what really concerns me. I don't want a disk to sit on the shelf (in a cool place away from the sun) and find out the disk doesn't play after a couple of years. Longevity is what will ultimately matter the most.

What leads you to think these disks will not last for many years?
I didn't say that. What I said is the ultimate question that only time will tell is whether these or any other cheap DVD-R disks can stand the test of time.

What about placing one of those CD/DVD lables on it. Won't that help protect the DVD-R media if you plan on storing it?
The only risk I see is it peeling off in a couple of years. :)
