DVD problem

I have a Pioneer 10x 105s (DVD-305 SCSI) dvd player. When i first got it, i tried to play a movie but couldn't. It shows the intro, like NewLine Cinema or FBI warnings then nothing. I've tried Cinemaster 2000 and PowerDVD, cinemaster allows me to see the intros, powerdvd gives me a compatibility error.

At first i was running 98, but my system was overdue for a format and the dvd problem was just one of a few. However, now i'm running 2k and all is well, with the exception of the dvd player. Nothing has changed. This is my first and only SCSI piece of hardware, if that makes a difference. The controller is an Adaptec 2940, the rest of the hardware is listed below. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

EDIT:

FOrgot to mention that the drive successfully reads data and audio cd's, just doesn't play dvd's.

Pioneer's FAQ says that if the drive can read data/audio cd's, it's functioning properly.
PowerDVD FAQ says that all video cards that support Directdraw Overlay are compatible (which the voodoo 3 does).

Software decoders tried:
PowerDVD
Cinemaster
WinDVD

Even tried PCfriendly, and Dvdplay to maybe see if a feature in cinemaster/powerdvd was causing it.

Sounds like a problem I had with the player (software) that came with my
Leadtek video card. One day it just quit working.
I tried everything including a full format and re-install with no luck.
When I bought a new video card for another system I tried the player
that came with it (ASUS DVD) and it's been working fine for months!

Since yours reads other cd's fine it's probably not a scsi issue.
Thought I saw something in another post about direct x8 being a
problem (If I'm wrong on this someone spank me,Bad Dog!).
I'll try to find it an post again.

Thanks, please LMK if u find that post... I also forgot to mention that I tried the freeware WinDVD software that came with my ABIT board... I can't bring up any sort of remote control to press play on, so that didn't work either.

As far as direct x 8 goes, i don't know what comes with 2k, i think it's 7a, and i don't think SP1 does any thing for direct x, however i did install direct x 8 after SP1. So that may be a problem. I can't remember if i was using dx7a or 8 on 98 though
