I built a new PC for a friend that has the following setup:
MSI KT7 Pro2A with T-Bird 1200 , 256 Ram
Elsa Gladiac 32 2MX
Pioneer DVD-115 16X EIDE
SBL value
Windows ME
System works great in games and, internet with no problems except
DVD playback. It locks up after a few minutes.
What I tried so far:
· Loaded new bios 2.5
· Enabled DMA
· New Via driver 4.29
· Busmaster 3.11 driver
· Switched DVD players (same problem)
· Moved SBL to each PCI slot (no luck)
· Used different video card still no luck.
· Tried Power DVD software and Cinamaster
Please can someone help me!!!!!!
I am sure someone has a similar setup. The MSI KT7 Pro2A is a highly rated motherboard in this forum. Did I make a mistake? I am counting on you people to help me out. I fell like a chump recommending this setup to a friend and can?t get it to work.

Thanks for reading.

Have almost the exact problem. The thing is that this motherboard has problems with DMA enbabled under the CD ROM. How i solved it? I installed Windows 2000 and the problem is gone. I can use Ultra DMA on my harddrive and my Pioneer CD. SO get the rid of Windows ME or install Windows 98SE instead.

I builded a system with some of the same specs as your's

msi k7t pro 2a
1000 mhz t-bird
256 mb ram
45 gb ibm harddrive (only one on the first ide channel)
pioneer dvd 105 dvd
and a 12X cdrw drive (both on the second ide channel)
Winme
But im using the onboard sound
using dma, via 4.1 4.28beta

no problems at all, using windvd as software
Heard of some problems with the sb live and 686 southbridge. and some reported that it worked better with pci latency timer till 0... Hope this will work for you!

I see you've tried the obvious, I have some of the same components and half the cpu, DVD playback is flawless. I would try another cable and is the DVD the Master on ide channel 2? Maybe you need to switch to the slave on ide 1. Do you have data transfer problems from the CD to hardrive?
