DVD playing software that buffers enough so drive doesn't sound like a jet

Back when I used Leopard, I loved the DVD player software because it played DVDs silently. I converted back to Windows and any thing I've tried seems to play the DVD at full speed. Is there any DVD players out there that buffer enough so you don't have to hear the DVD player overpower the volume?

I guess if there isn't, I suppose I could learn how to program one..

i too would love to know this. i've used VLC, but it causes a slight pause every couple of minutes during a dvd, and i've tried GOMPlayer, but the A3CFilter for it blows trying to setup correctly.

I have the Nero suite. it comes with a tool called Nero DriveSpeed. it controls the speed of the drive. i just tell it to stay on 2x, and it won't go faster then that. doesn't make any noise and the movie runs smoothly.

you can also rip the DVD to an ISO image (using DVDDecrypter or similar), then mount the image (using DaemonTools or similar) and finally play it with any DVD prog you like. this method is especially useful if you need to give the disc back to its owner but you dont wanna rush to watch it.

err, when playing a dvd it shouldn't rev above 1x no?

i've never seen dvd player software that buffers by reading a bunch at once.

this on a mac using xp? or is the xp pc different. some drives are just loud.

as said, use dvdfab decrypter or anydvd to rip to drive if you want silent play
you don't need to mount an image, just rip as normal files. windvd or powerdvd let you open dvd folders on drives, select the video_ts folder and click open and generally it will play like a normal dvd would.
